Earlier this week the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced it would not renew its contract with Electronic Arts for the NCAA Football series of college football games.
Joystiq reported earlier today that the publisher will continue to work with the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), the company in charge of trademark licensing and marketing services for universities. A Joystiq source familiar with the agreement between the companies claimed that EA’s licensing extension with the CLC is for three years starting July 1st, 2014 and is for a non-exclusive college football game. The agreement is non-exclusive due to Electronic Art’s $27 million settlement in an antitrust lawsuit regarding the publisher’s football games. This year’s NCAA Football 14 will be the last game in the series to include the “NCAA Football” branding. The next title will arrive on the next-generation consoles in 2014.
The CLC has since confirmed the new contract to Polygon, and stated it gives EA the rights to use “more than 150 colleges, conferences and bowl games” in the college football video game series.
